Why use a toilet paper gel over a spray, foam, or flushable wet wipe?

Why use a toilet paper gel over a spray, foam, or flushable wet wipe?

If you follow along with our antics, you’ll know that we can’t stop nattering on about how wetter is better. We don’t say it for no reason either! Wet cleans, dry doesn’t, and that’s just the facts. Although dry wiping can get rid of the majority of the forbidden debris, it can take excessive wiping to get there which can lead to irritation through dermabrasions. These are tiny little cuts in the sensitive skin that leave you feeling sore. Leftover pieces of tissue and faecal residue can cause irritation too, leaving you feeling itchy throughout the day. Life is hectic enough as it is, we don’t need to be getting itchy and sore where the sun doesn’t shine too!

Because of this, we often need something extra to clean up the mess that life leaves behind. We have a variety of options when it comes to cleaning up, from disposable wet wipes to sustainable alternatives to wet wipes like a toilet paper gel, foam or spray. Here at Wype, we believe a gel formula is superior. Here’s why.

Spray and foam alternatives to wet wipes break toilet paper

Toilet paper is delicate and designed to break down quickly when you flush it, most brands of toilet paper are designed to dissolve in a matter of minutes! The issue? Wet wipe alternative sprays and foams don’t work the same way as gel formulas do. Where a gel sits on the toilet paper, foams and sprays immediately saturate the toilet tissue and lead to a weakening of the tissue fibres, resulting in the paper breaking when you wipe.

The last thing we want is to be giving our butts the pamper they deserve and ending up with an unwarranted finger slip. There’s a time and place for everything, but on this occasion, the office cubicle may not be desirable for the dreaded finger poke. A gel formula means that you can enjoy feeling clean without having to worry about any messy accidents.

A gel is better for your sensitive tushy

Using standard toilet paper can be harsh on the sensitive skin around your booty, causing micro-dermabrasions that lead to irritation and soreness around the area. It’s easy to think that wet wipes might be better, but as they are designed to be thrown away as soon as they’ve been used, there’s a lack of investment for good quality ingredients when manufacturing them. Common preservatives in wipes are Methylchloroisothiazolinone/methylisothiazolinone (MCI/MI) which are ingredients known to cause irritation and contact dermatitis. Not fun!

Luckily, a gel formula glides onto the sensitive skin, soothing and moisturising as you wipe so you can let the gel do the work instead of rubbing your tushy raw. Don’t let carpet burn catch you with your pants round your ankles!

Flushable wet wipes don’t break down

Despite the countless credentials on the front of the packaging, wet wipes classed as ‘flushable’ or ‘fine to flush’ don’t break down fast enough when they make their way down the drain. In fact, according to a report by Water UK, they’re 88 times more likely to cause a sewer blockage than your bog-standard toilet tissue. These accreditations were created as a compromise between wet wipe manufacturers and water companies to continue the manufacturing of wet wipes at a consistent rate, but that doesn’t bode well for our sewers and oceans.

Top-tier publications are increasingly highlighting the negative effects “flushable” wet wipes have on our local watercourses, showing just how real this issue is. One of the latest to report on the issue was The Economist. You may even be able to spot one of our founders in their recent article...

In our gel formula, we use cleansing, soothing, and moisturising ingredients such as aloe vera, chamomile and coconut. We consult with dermatologists to keep our formula hypoallergenic and kind to skin, and use natural and organic ingredients. This way, you know that you won’t have to worry about any harmful preservatives or cleansing agents. Read more about our ingredients here
